I’m Travis Cole. I’m SVP of Engineering at PlanetScale, where we build high-performance databases for MySQL and Postgres.

Previously, I led Cloud Infrastructure at Confluent, the SRE team at Segment, and Platform Engineering Infrastructure at Square.

Elsewhere you might find me skiing, trail running, or maybe trying to thru-hike (or section hike) some of the (shorter) long distance trails such as the John Muir Trail and the Tahoe Rim Trail.

This site was built with Jekyll, a static site generator written in Ruby. The minimalist theme was created with Claude Code, inspired by Perfect Motherfucking Website. I wanted a site that focuses on readability and content without unnecessary styling or JavaScript - just pure HTML and CSS the way the web was meant to be.
